We’ve learned much about 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, yet we still know very little. It is now understood that the Las Vegas mass murderer fired 200 rounds into the Mandalay Bay hotel hallway in an attempt to kill a security guard.
From Times of Israel:
Paddock, who had installed three cameras to monitor the approach to his suite, opened fire through the door, spraying 200 shots down the hall and wounding the guard, who alerted other security officials, Lombardo said.
A few minutes later, Paddock began a 10-minute killing spree that killed 58 people in the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, Lombardo said.
Authorities also said Monday that Paddock targeted aviation fuel tanks, stocked his car with explosives and had personal protection gear as part of an escape plan.
Paddock had power tools and was attempting to drill a hole in an adjacent wall, perhaps to mount another camera or to point a rifle through, but he never completed the work, Lombardo said. He also drilled holes and bolted a metal bar to try to prevent the opening of an emergency exit stairwell door near the door of his room.
Why did Paddock snap? Why did the coward end the lives 58 innocent people before killing himself?
We know Paddock was a retired multi-millionaire with a gambling problem; He had his pilot’s license along with multiple homes across multiple states; He was prescribed anti-anxiety medication; He took 20 cruises, some of which traveled to the Middle East.
We also know that ISIS has taken credit for the attack. Yet, we still don’t know what exactly the monster’s motive was.
The woman who was rumored to be with Paddock just days before the massacre is said to be a lady of the night, per Daily Mail:
A US official says investigators believe the Las Vegas shooter may have hired a prostitute in the days before the shooting, and they are interviewing other call girls as they look for clues into his motive.
The official said on Friday that prostitutes are among the hundreds of leads they are pursuing as part of their investigation into Stephen Paddock.
The official, who was briefed by federal law enforcement officials, wasn’t authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Okay, then. Here’s more…
His $500-a-night suite at the Mandalay Bay was comped because he always spent so much there.
Such was his relationship with other casinos that his girlfriend Marilou would be given all-expenses paid shopping trips by some of the establishments.
Paddock and Marilou lived in a $400,000 home in a retirement community in Mesquite, Nevada.
Yesterday, police changed their story of the timeline, via Los Angeles Times:
Police have dramatically changed their account of how the Las Vegas massacrebegan on Oct. 1, revealing Monday that the gunman shot a hotel security guard six minutes before opening fire on a country music concert — raising new questions about why police weren’t able to pinpoint the gunman’s location sooner.
Officials had previously said that gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., shot Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos after Paddock had unleashed his deadly volley at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, an assault that began at 10:05 p.m. and left 58 people dead, with hundreds more injured.
They had credited Campos, who was shot in the leg, with stopping the 10-minute assault on the concert crowd by turning the gunman’s attention to the hotel hallway, where Campos was checking an alert for an open door in another guest’s room.
But Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Monday that Paddock shot Campos before his mass shooting — at 9:59 p.m. — and they now didn’t know why Paddock stopped his attack on the crowd.
